The Prison Story Project team met with 11 women incarcerated at the Northwest Arkansas Community Correction Center from October 2016 through January 2017 in a storytelling/creative writing circle. We met every Monday and Wednesday evening from 6:00pm -7:30pm and listened deeply to one another.
One of our participants summed up our time together perfectly:
“We built a circle of trust week by week, story by story. we laughed and cried with one another. You invited us into the circle and we invited you into our lives. I’m having trouble finding the words to describe how all of you have been undeniably instrumental in healing some of my brokenness.
Thank you all for teaching me how to hear what’s being said, more importantly, how to listen deeply.
When listening deeply I hear much, much more than words. I hear the experience.
In this experience, I am free.”
Please join us February 11 for our 7th production of Stories From the Inside Out. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 224 N. East Street, Fayetteville, AR. There will be a reception and art exhibit featuring the women’s work and portraits of the women by Andrew Kilgore at 7:00pm and the staged reading starts at 7:30pm.
