We are very pleased to announce that the project is a recipient of a Mid-America Arts Alliance FY2016 Artistic Innovations Grant!
Two grants are awarded to artists and arts organizations in each member state: Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.
This grant will support production of “You Are Not Alone” Men & Women In Prison: Call & Response. “You Are Not Alone” is a project we trialed at the Randall L. Williams Correction Center for Men in Pine Bluff, AR last year. We took a staged reading of “Stories From the Inside Out to the men’s prison and then conducted a creative writing intensive after the performance. This grant will enable us to continue to share stories of incarcerated men and women with each other from behind bars.
The mission of the Prison Story Project is to create improved future stories – not only for the incarcerated women we serve – but for their families and the communities they will be returning to. This grant will help us expand that mission to include the possibility of improving relationships between the women we serve and the men in their lives, giving each of them an opportunity to hear the stories of the other in a new and healing way.
